History name of Sanglang

Kuala Sanglang is situated in the southern part of Perlis and most of its residents are fishermen. The first settlers were a Chinese family who were fishermen. As their catch was very good, more Chinese families came to settled in Kuala Sanglang.

The origin of the word Sanglang is related to a Chinese durian trader who came from Yan, Kedah. Every year, he would go by boat to Kuala Sanglang to sell his durians. On his journey to Kuala Sanglang, he had to pass by a place that was full with eagle nests. As a result he called the place sarang helang which literally meant eagle nests.

However, the Chinese people found it difficult to pronounce sarang helang and subsequently called the place Sanglang.
